(AP) — Mississippi's state auditor filed court papers Monday renewing his call for Brett Favre to repay the state for welfare money that the auditor says was improperly spent on projects backed by the retired NFL quarterback. White said in 2020 that Favre had improperly received $1.1 million in speaking fees from a nonprofit organization that spent welfare with approval from the Mississippi Department of Human Services. The money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program was to go toward a volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi. “Favre had no legal right to the possession or control of this $1.1 Million,” White's attorneys wrote in the court filing Monday. No criminal charges have been brought against Favre, although a former department director and other people have pleaded guilty to their part in the misspending.

Following his retirement from the NFL, Patrick Mahomes appears to be the heir-apparent to that winning pedigree. He’s still a way off Brady’s seven Super Bowl rings, but for some, the Kansas City QB is a serious rival to Brady’s ‘Greatest Of All Time’ tag. Getty ImagesLike many of Brady’s Super Bowl runs with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 2023 trek for Chiefs has been one of sheer determination. Kansas City’s season has been fraught with offensive issues, yet the team finds itself in its second successive Super Bowl, primarily on the back of Mahomes’ brilliance in the postseason. But Mahomes isn’t the only quarterback in the Super Bowl who has impressed.

“I do not believe at all that he’s divisive in the Jets locker room and within their own building. While on the field he’s on a Hall of Fame trajectory, some of Rodgers’ behavior away from the sport shows a different side to the man. As Rodgers ran onto the field, carrying an American flag and with AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ booming out, Jets fans went wild. Rodgers’ arrival in New York during the offseason had looked like a masterstroke, on and off the field for the Jets franchise. But after missing out on nearly the whole season through injury, Rodgers’ season-ending media conference last week ended with him stressing winning.

Read previewRemember when the Aaron Rodgers/Pat McAfee/Jimmy Kimmel situation was resolved because Rodgers was no longer going to be on ESPN? Thursday, the NFL quarterback was back on McAfee's ESPN show, commenting on Patriots coach Bill Belichick's departure . But that doesn't really matter. And for a day, at least, that's working out for McAfee and Disney, since Rodgers didn't use his TV time to attack another Disney star. The unanswered question: What happens if Rodgers — or anyone else McAfee books — causes problems for Disney again?

CNN —Aaron Rodgers is done as a guest on Pat McAfee’s ESPN show for the remainder of the NFL season. “So ‘Aaron Rodgers Tuesday,’ season four, is done,” McAfee told his audience. The way it ended, it got real loud.”A person familiar with the matter told CNN that the decision to end Rodgers’ regular Tuesday appearances was due to his recent behavior, not the conclusion of the regular NFL season. During the previous two NFL seasons, Rodgers appeared on McAfee’s program as late as March. Rodgers’ remark about Kimmel prompted backlash not only because it was unproven and laced with innuendo but because McAfee permitted him to make the remarks on ESPN.

Disney's Bob Iger got out of a jam with two of his biggest stars: Jimmy Kimmel and Pat McAfee. AdvertisementThere aren't a lot of media moguls who could get out of a jam involving two of their biggest stars and accusations of pedophilia. It's unclear when McAfee intends to bring Rodgers back or if he ever will; ESPN reps declined to comment. One of the reasons is that while Disney and ESPN are reported to be paying McAfee $85 million over five years to bring his daily talk show to ESPN, McAfee isn't a Disney employee. And certainly not one about one of ESPN's biggest stars, who's supposed to represent its path to the future.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers' improbable comeback from a torn Achilles tendon has taken the next step. The New York Jets opened the 21-day practice window for the quarterback on Wednesday — exactly 11 weeks after he had surgery — with Rodgers cleared for some football activities. Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon four snaps into his debut with the Jets on Sept. 11 and had surgery two days later. Sure, but that's OK. That's his ‘why’ — that's why he's (doing it). “I promise Aaron is not going to do anything that puts himself in harm’s way if he's not healthy to play,” Saleh said.

The phenomenon of active athletes hosting podcasts largely started in the N.B.A., where players can command more attention because there are smaller rosters and more frequent games. (AP) — A federal judge on Monday dismissed Brett Favre’s defamation lawsuit against fellow retired NFL player Shannon Sharpe, ruling that Sharpe used constitutionally protected speech on a sports broadcast when he criticized Favre's connection to a welfare misspending case in Mississippi. Discussion of Mississippi welfare spending on “Undisputed” took place after extensive news coverage about allegations of Mississippi's largest public corruption case. Favre is not facing criminal charges, but he is among more than three dozen people or businesses the state is suing to try to recover misspent welfare money. In addition to suing Sharpe, Favre filed defamation lawsuits earlier this year against White, the auditor, and sportscaster Pat McAfee, who is a former NFL punter. Favre has repaid $1.1 million he received for speaking fees from a nonprofit group that spent TANF money with approval from the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift's trip to watch the Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce play football on Sunday didn't just have the internet talking nonstop.
